Q. What are the odds of getting a blind I want to hunt?
A. Here is how the records show from 2016 -2020 season. There were 4019 hunting request made. Every group got one of their 4 request, 168 got their 4th choice, 442 groups got their 3rd choice, 865 got their 2nd choice, and 2545 groups received their 1st request spot to hunt. (Note* There were over 196 times groups text in late also, and they still got great spots to hunt!) This goes to show diversity of our leased land, not just one or two different properties that were consistent on shooting ducks and geese. If so the 1st, and 2nd request would not have been so good! So you would get your 1st - 2nd request an average of 85% of the time. No one else has or will post there hunter request list like we do!
Q. What days can you hunt?
A. As a member you can hunt every day the waterfowl season is open, according to the zones.
Q. How many members do you have?
A. We don’t count members we count groups. For several groups pay the full group price and only want 3 – 4 members in their group. This past year we had 53 groups of up to 6 man groups, with 68 plus duck blinds. Not counting all the areas we have to goose hunt on!
Q. How may acres do you have?
A. We don't count acres here at R.W.C. You don't hunt ducks over dry useless acres, you hunt ducks over water! We count duck blinds to make sure if every group wants to hunt, there is enough water, and blinds for every group to do so. Our duck blind count this past year for the past season was 68, plus several extra places we caught lots of water that was great hunting spots too. If you added in all the goose hunting areas we could have put out 92 groups at one time! For the next waterfowl season, we hope to have around 75 blinds or more, also more goose land.
Q. Is there a deposit, and if so how much down. Also when is the rest of the money due?
A. We ask for ½ of the amount down, and the rest is due on or before September 1st.
Q. Can I bring a guest? How much is a guest fee?
A. Yes the members can bring guest, just as long as the blind doesn’t go over the six man group for the day. There are no charges or guest fees! All your guest has to do is fill out a release form and you turn it in to us later, simple as that.
Q. How many groups will you have this year.
A. This depends on the number of duck hunting blinds we get with guaranteed water on them. Our club members voted for us to acquire more land for the additional diverstiy of duck blinds. We will not have more groups than we can get blinds for. So when we are full like we get every year we cannot and will not take on any more groups for that year. We always have a lot more blinds than groups. We want at lest 20-25% more blinds then groups. We uslaly have more like 25-40% more blinds then groups, and this does not include all of our goose hunting ares too!
Q. How does a single gun get in a group?
A. We put single guns in with other single guns to form a group of six guns. If you are 90% duck hunter we put you in a group of those that are duck hunters, not a 90% goose hunter group.
Q. Are there blinds already put up, or do we have to build them?
A. Before the season starts we go out and build all the blinds well before the season. They are set for the primary winds and sun direction.
Q. Are there work days?
A. We don’t have any mandatory work days for our members. We do welcome all the help we can get. We will assign any person or group that would like to help with our blind building team, those still needing to be built, or brushed. This way all blinds are sure to be up and ready for even early teal season. Then we have some to move for the up coming big duck season. In mid or the split all blinds are gone over and checked for anything that might need to be doen before the split re-opens up.
Q. How does new members rank compared to members that have been in the club a while?
A. We show no favoritism here at all. You will find out our old and new members are all treated the same, as all have paid for the land the club has to be hunted.
Q. Do you run guided hunts on the land?
A. No and we repeat a big NO. We do not and will not run any guided hunts on the club land. The club members pay for the land and water, therefore all the hunts are for the members and their guest only. The only guiding done is for our members only, that want our help for the day.
Q. How are the blinds given out to the groups?
A. Each group will have a group leader. This is someone all the members from that group can call and take their request. The group leader will text us for the group the day before the hunt and leave a blind or field request message. He will give us four requests in order of preference, 1st – 2nd - 3rd and 4th choice for the next day. After the cut off time at 3:00 pm, we take and go over all the request and fit as many top request request in for the day. After all the group names have been placed on paper we text all the group leaders one of their request. In-turn he then calls those from his group that was going hunting the next day.
Q. Can a group hunt the same spot twice in a row?
A. Yes, as long as another group has not requested it for that day. This way no one group is showed any favoritism, or hog a spot.
Q. Can we use ATV’s on the property?
A. Yes, acording to your preference and different needs. Though most all the land we hunt you will not need one. Most all the land can be accessed by car or truck on any given day rain or shine. Only one or two different properties this year an ATV was needed only when it rained. One of the properties in Markham gets slick and therefore we can’t mess up the roads. The other one is in the Egypt area. Some of the blinds in Markham have a long walk to the blinds (500 yards or more). Also the wide levies or not big enough for trucks at all.
Q. Are the blinds a far walk to get to?
A. Almost half of the blinds this past year you can drive up next to and almost hit the blind with the door of your vehicle. Easy to drop off your hunting gear and fellow hunters, then drive the vehicle back in the parking area. Then there is only a short walk back to the blind. All the other blinds you can drive about 5 yards to 1/2 mile from them. * See answer above also*
Q. Does the club have decoys for us to use?
A. About 17 of the duck blinds there are club duck decoys for your use and convenience. This may vary as we grow this year in size too. We will also hope to have limited goose decoys for the groups to check out on a day to day hunt , for the comming 2021-2022 season.
Q. Can I see some of the different properties before I join?
A. Yes you can. We have an open invitation for you to come by our office in Eagle Lake, have a seat and ask us all you questions. From there we’ll go out to some of the different properties and show you where the blinds are located, as well as what we do to help the habitat for the waterfowl you hunt.
Q. How are the blinds set-up if I want to bring my wife or kids?
A. Most of the blinds were in the dry but two this year. Next year 2019 - 2020 there could be seven. This way your feet won’t get cold from having them submerged in the water during you hunt. For if your family's feet get cold, your going home, no matter how great the ducks are working that day! Also if you drop something it’s not wet or under the water where you can’t find it. The benches are sturdy and made with 2"x 12" tops for setting comfort. Also the front of the blinds are lower for easier shooting for kids.
Q. Are the blinds large enough for a group to fit in?
A. Yes they are all 16’ long. This way if your entire group wanted to hunt that day, there is 8’ per 3 hunters. The benches are built with 2x12” tops for your comfort and stability too. *( Exception of 1 of the 54 duck blinds, 2018 -2019 season. This one is in the water, built by the land owner. It seats 5, and has been there for many waterfowl seasons.)*
Q. Do you have any lodging?
A. No we do not have a lodge, but we will have our RV site finished for this year. It is located on the outside edge of one of our hunting properties on the north side of Eagle Lake. It will have room for up to 10 RV hookups.
