Riceland Waterfowl Club is a private bird hunting operation that specializes in waterfowl hunting.  Overall our hunting operation is much more detailed than that of our competition.  We're located just 65 miles southwest of Houston, Texas.  We have leased access to thousands of acres, spanning 5, (that's right five) different counties of privately owned farmland.  This puts us directly in center of the Texas rice belt.  We believe in providing our club members with great habitat, along with proper management, also limited hunting pressure so everyone will have a successful hunt.

Because we have our limited number of seasonal groups and special guided hunts per season for them, this permits us to customize each hunting package according to what is most important to the individuals who make up each group.

David’s Personal Bio

Before David Pruett was born; hunting was in his blood, as it was with his father and grandfathers before.  He was taught how to smell squirrels in the woods and listen for the ever so quiet footsteps of the deer searching for fallen acorns from the white oak trees.  Late December, about age 12, he was walking quietly in the woods alone carrying a double barrel shotgun (side by side).  One barrel was loaded with buckshot - the other with 71/2's.  From under the mighty oaks a small rain - filled water hole suddenly erupted filling the open air around the branches with flapping wings.  He swung up crossing out a bird, and then the forest echoed as the lead 71/2's raced towards its target.  Almost before the smell of fresh shotgun powder cleared the air, David raced to pick up the fallen fowl.   In his hands was the most beautiful bird he’d ever seen.  He was awed by its placement of colors.  As he turned the bird admiring it, there were more colors on that duck than in a rainbow.  That drake wood duck was his first waterfowl experience.  It set him on a special quest for waterfowl still to this very day.

David Pruett started waterfowl guiding on his own at age 16.  This was when hunters were allowed 10 ducks a day by the point system.  At 23, he started guiding for different outfitters professionally.  He's very personal and always dedicated to the success of hunters old and young alike.  With many years of experience, he's always equipped with the latest materials (and some old fashioned secrets...) necessary for that exciting close-up shot.  David enjoys working with the youth - our future waterfowlers - on hunting and calling techniques.  Over the years he has been seen on several television shows demonstrating his expertise in this sport.  He's also been recogniged in several waterfowl hunting magazines.  This year will be no exception.  To sum it up, it's shaping up to be a very exciting year in the waterfowling world!                                                                  

When David went to his first duck calling event back in 1995 to see what it was all about.  He then was persuaded to join in on the competition where he surprisingly took 1st place.  Since then he has had over 286 place wins in Duck, Goose, Sandhill Crane and Mouth Goose calling.  He personally enjoys the team calling events the most. It gives him the opportunity to call with old friends and great callers alike.  The real joy is working with the younger caller’s, especially seeing the smile on their face when they place.  No matter if its 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, the smile is all the same - they did it!  The arenas have been local, regional, invitational, state, and the world championship calling competitions.  Not surprisingly, he also holds the most world and state championship calling titles - period!                           

 David  is also ranked 2nd in the world for the most place wins and is closing in on the #1 spot!  He is well known as one of the most respected and versatile waterfowl callers in the southern region, at calling ducks, geese, and Sandhill Cranes both in and out of the hunting field.
